1. Wednesday, June 23rd, from 4:30 pm to 6 pm
ICfC Senior Associate Dr. David Steele will talk about his most recent experiences in conflict transformation in Kenya and in Iraq. Dr. Steele is a trained facilitator in social transformation within conflict situations. In Kenya, he led skill-building trainings in conflict transformation and peace building for non-state actors in response to recent post-election violence. Last year, Dr. Steele worked in Iraq with the United States Institute of Peace as a reconciliation facilitator in coordination with the Provincial Reconstruction Teams. His focus there was training in interfaith dialogue, training-of-trainers for advanced level Iraqi facilitators, and training for reconciliation and human rights specialists. He also developed a dialogue process to confront corruption which he trained Iraqis to lead.
2. Wednesday, July 22nd, from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm
Please join ICfC and our Fellow Phil Gamaghelyan in a discussion on the background on the peace process between Turkey and Armenia. Phil will talk about the historical narratives as an integral part of the peace process, successes and challenges faced during the dialogue process, the role of small NGOs in conflict transformation, and lessons his organization has learned in the course of this work.
Phil Gamaghelyan, a native of Armenia, is the founder and co-director of the Imagine Program for Conflict Transformation, an organization dedicated to positively transforming relations and laying foundations for lasting and sustainable peace in conflict-torn societies. Phil, an experienced trainer and conflict group facilitator, has a master's degree in Conflict Resolution from Brandeis University. In addition to his work with the ICfC, Phil has worked as a Co-Coordinator of Delegation Leaders Program at Seeds of Peace and as a consultant with Turkish - Armenian Dialogues, the Inter-Communal Violence and Reconciliation project - a joint initiative of The Harvard Humanitarian Initiative and the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy. He is also the founder and co-facilitator of a Turkish/Armenian Dialogue Group that unites graduate students from Boston-area universities.
Phil's research is focused on the role of memory and history in identity-based conflicts. He has been developing methodology that integrates historical reconciliation into conflict resolution work. Phil is the author of a number of methodological and analytical articles.
